| THE PROCESS | |||||||
The process for commissioning a portrait is straight forward. Once you have decided on the canvas size for the portrait, call me to discuss the details and to arrange a date for me to visit in order to take photos/sketches. If a visit is not possible (it may be a surprise gift) I will need to see a selection of photographs you may already have, or, help guide you through taking photographs yourself. For human portraits please call for details about sittings and/or photographs. Once we are happy with the composition of the portrait, I will carry out the commission in my studio (or in situ for human portraits when possible), providing you with regular updates and preview images of the artwork. After the portrait is completed, final payment is made and the portrait carefully packaged and delivered to you. The time frame for an oil painting is approximately 4 to 6 weeks depending on my work load and the complexity of the composition. Drawings are usually 2 to 3 weeks (please note that for pastel drawings I will require images of the head and shoulders to be sent to me. A visit is not usually necessary or is at an extra cost). GUARANTEED LIKENESS It is extremely important to achieve absolute likeness in the portrait and, as importantly, the character and spirit. Customers are able to preview the portrait for their approval prior to final payment and delivery. If you would like to see examples of past commissions showing the portrait alongside the original reference material, please view the testimonial page.
